Similar to Botox, Dysport is a neuromodulator used for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles due to muscular activity. When injected, Dysport relaxes your muscles and helps the wrinkles to appear smoother for an overall refreshed appearance.
When it is time to enhance your unique look or fight the signs of aging, you have many options! During your consultation, New York Dysport injector, Dr. Khelemsky, will evaluate your facial features while discovering more about your wishes and concerns. A custom treatment will be created to offer you the best solutions for your beauty and anti-aging needs. Anyone receiving cosmetic treatments is advised to maintain a positive and healthy attitude about expected results.
Dysport and Botox are two brand name products that together belong to the category of injectable medications called neuromodulators. Neuromodulators act to relax the muscle into which they are injected. By relaxing the muscle, Botox and Dysport are able to smooth out lines and wrinkles that are caused by facial animation, such as “smile lines” or “frown lines”. One important difference between Botox and Dysport is that they are dosed very differently. In simple terms, one unit of Botox is equivalent to three units of Dysport. Therefore, the appropriate dose for your treatment will differ from Botox, and these two products are not interchangeable.
Additionally, Dysport has slight differences in its molecular structure compared to Botox. Patients may see a different onset time with Botox versus Dysport. Dysport also has a greater ability to spread in the area where it is injected, which may be desired as fewer injections are used to relax the muscle. However, due to their similar muscle-relaxing actions, both Dysport and Botox have the ability to produce similar cosmetic results.
Dysport and dermal fillers effectively treat fine lines and wrinkles; however, they are very different treatments. Dermal fillers typically contain hyaluronic acid — a known substance within your body and are designed to add volume to the face. Fillers are typically used along the cheeks, lips, chin, and jawline. In contrast, Dysport relaxes certain facial muscles for an overall smoother appearance in the area where that muscle would otherwise contract and cause wrinkling. Dysport is typically used in the upper third of the face, such as the forehead, the 11’s between the eyebrows, as well as the sides of the eyes, known as the crow’s feet area. Finally, the length that results will last differs between Dysport (lasting about 3 months) and dermal fillers (lasting about one to two years).
When it comes to receiving their Dysport patients can experience a quick treatment with little to no downtime. Once your face is cleansed, a numbing cream may be applied if needed. Then, Dr. Khelemsky uses a fine needle to inject small quantities of Dysport into various facial muscles, depending on your treatment needs. Ice may be applied to treated areas to reduce the potential for bruising. Your Dysport treatment takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of areas selected for treatment.
After their Dysport patients can return to their daily activities. It is vital not to massage or place pressure on the treated areas, and it is recommended not to sleep on your face for the first 24 hours after your Dysport treatment. Agitation or other strenuous activity may cause the injectable to migrate to other areas, which may cause unwanted results. Your results will be visible as soon as three days but can take up to one week to be fully apparent, and results will last three to four months. Dr. Khelemsky will arrange for future visits for optimal maintenance.
